We’re thrilled to share the release of our very first hardcover art book, the inaugural title under a new publishing imprint we’re building at NowHere, and a celebration of Toshihisa Yoda’s ongoing legacy and his show Continuum, 1967–Today.

Toshihisa Yoda’s sixty years in New York began humbly, with a journey by ocean liner, two suitcases of paint, a Greyhound bus, and a student visa secured through the Brooklyn Museum Art School. In this book we document Toshihisa Yoda’s story—his narrative both an art historical record and a legacy that continues to evolve.

The 164-page book is a high-end, large-format edition spanning six decades of Toshihisa’s work, anchored by a long conversation with the artist and essays digging into his legacy and influence. It’s limited to 250 copies and was designed in close collaboration with our friends at MP Creative. Contributors include artist Junko Yoda, offering an intimate view as Toshihisa’s wife; journalist and writer Jesse Pearson; and art critic Yuichiro Asakura.

Toshihisa Yoda: Continuum, 1967–Today is the first title published in conjunction with NowHere Vanguards, our ongoing project to document, preserve, and reintroduce the work of Japanese and Japan-related artists who continue to build their lives and practices in New York. These Vanguards are often outside the spotlight, yet deeply woven into the city’s creative fabric.

Join us for the launch on Monday, August 3rd, 5–7pm, with words from Yoda family friend and celebrated art historian Reiko Tomii, Junko and Yoichiro Yoda, and Toshihisa in person for book signing. Copies will be available for purchase.
